While China does have access to the internet, the government has strict regulations and censorship over which websites can be accessed. This includes blocking popular sites like Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. However, there are still ways to access these sites and get online in China:

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

VPNs are the most common way of bypassing internet restrictions in China. They allow you to connect to a server outside of China, making your internet appear as if it is coming from a different country. This way, you can access websites that are blocked in China. Be aware that not all VPNs work in China, so it’s important to choose a reliable one and install it on your devices beforehand.

SIM Card/Data Plan

You can buy a SIM card in China or get an international data plan from your local provider. However, you will still be subjected to the same internet censorship as the locals.

Roaming

Using the roaming function of your SIM card can be quite convenient as it may allow unrestricted access to the internet. However, this can be quite expensive.

Hotel or Hostel Wifi

Some foreign-owned hotels or hostels might have access to VPNs, and logging onto their wifi network may enable you to visit certain blocked websites.

Remember that accessing blocked content is technically illegal in China, even with a VPN. Always respect local laws and customs when you travel, and be mindful of what you post or communicate when online.
