Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN) Guide for Beginners
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is a highly important mega-aviation hub in Fujian Province and the gateway for many tourists visiting beautiful Xiamen. For complete beginners, it is helpful to know that Gaoqi Airport consists of two main terminals, T3 and T4. Its transportation network is extremely developed, especially the unique BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system, which helps you easily avoid traffic jams.

How to get from Xiamen Gaoqi Airport to downtown and surrounding areas?
Option 1: The “Traffic-Jam Proof” BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) If you want to enter the city quickly and cheaply without worrying about road congestion, Xiamen’s unique BRT (which runs on dedicated elevated viaducts) is the absolute top choice for beginners:
- Routes: You can take K1 (快1路) (to First Pier or Xiamen North Station), K2 (快2路) (to Tong’an Hub or First Pier), K5 (快5路) (to Qianpu Hub or Tong’an Hub), or K6 (快6路) (to Qianpu Hub or Xiamen North Station).
- Boarding and Fares: The fares for these lines range from just 1 to 4 RMB, which is extremely cheap. Please note that you need to board at the “Gaoqi Airport (BRT)” or “T4 Terminal (BRT)” stations.
Option 2: “Luggage-Friendly” City Airport Buses If you have large luggage and want to travel directly to popular tourist spots, taking the airport bus is the most worry-free method. Currently, there are 4 dedicated bus lines, and you can search for schedules and buy tickets directly on the WeChat mini-program “元翔空港快线” (Yuanxiang Airport Express); the inquiry hotline is 0592-5708275.
- Zengcuo’an Line (Fare: 15 RMB): This line is tailor-made for tourists, passing through the Convention Center, Huangcuo, Tatou, Zengcuo’an, Xiamen University Student Apartment, and finally Xiamen University Baicheng, covering all the hottest seaside spots.
- Gulangyu Line (Fare: 15 RMB): If you want to head straight to Gulangyu Island after landing, this line takes you directly to the Lundu (Zhongshan Road) ferry terminal and the Gulangyu (Cruise Center) terminal.
- Xiamen North Railway Station Line (Fare: 15 RMB): Connects T3 and T4 directly with the Xiamen North Station Passenger Station, making it easy to transfer to high-speed trains.
Option 3: The Highly Extensive “Regular Bus” Network There are over 20 regular bus lines around Gaoqi Airport, such as Bus 27, 37, 41, 84, and 91, with fares generally costing only 1 to 2 RMB. In addition, there is an “Airport Express” and a “Free Trade Zone Airport Convenience Line,” both costing just 1 RMB.
Option 4: “Intercity Buses” to Surrounding Cities If you wish to travel directly from the airport to other cities in Fujian Province, you can purchase intercity bus tickets via the “元翔空港快线” mini-program.
Longyan Line (Fare: 80 RMB): Extremely beginner-friendly, as it not only stops at the Longyan City Terminal but also offers a door-to-door pick-up and drop-off service within the Longyan city area.
Zhangzhou Line (Fare: 40 RMB): Stops at core landmarks in downtown Zhangzhou, including the Baixiang Yuanshan Hotel, Zhangzhou Hotel, Wanda Realm Hotel, and Rongxin Crowne Plaza Hotel.
What if my flight arrives too early or too late?
If you arrive on a late-night flight, some regular bus lines are still there to serve you. For example, Bus 37, heading to the Railway Station (Hudong) from the T4 Bus Station, operates its last bus as late as 23:50, providing a basic late-night transport backup. If you arrive past midnight, it is recommended to queue at the official taxi stand to take a licensed taxi to your hotel.
