Alila Dong’ao Island Zhuhai: A Cliffside Sanctuary Where Nature Meets Luxury

Perched on the southernmost tip of Zhuhai’s Dong’ao Island, Alila Dong’ao Island Zhuhai rises dramatically from a rugged peninsula, framed by the boundless South China Sea on three sides. This visionary project designed by ZNA with interiors by Ju Bin Studio, spans 29,300 square meters to redefine cliffside luxury.

Architectural Marvel in Harmony with Nature

Guided by a philosophy of “reverence for nature,” the design team preserved the island’s raw beauty. The main building features a wave-inspired floating roof that mirrors the surrounding cliffs, evoking the timeless dance of crashing waves against stone—a poetic homage to the untamed landscape.

Luxury Redefined: Suites with Soul

As Hyatt’s first Alila island resort property in China, this sanctuary blends unspoiled coastal vistas with modern wellness tourism. Opening on April 15, 2025 (bookings now available), its 103 suites—each starting at 86 sqm—offer floor-to-ceiling ocean views, private balconies, and subtle nods to Lingnan culture through rattan weavings and wood carvings in earthy palettes. Select suites boast personal tea rooms or infinity pools, framing 270-degree seascapes.

Culinary Journeys by the Sea

Sea Salt(Hai Yan): At this all-day dining haven cantilevered above the waves, savor just-caught seafood prepared with time-honored techniques.

Sea Pavilion(Hoi Tong): Elevated Cantonese cuisine meets panoramic ocean vistas in this cliffside Chinese restaurant.

The Bar(Chun): Sunset cocktails meet artisanal bites, from Champagne to smoky grilled delicacies.

Wellness Reimagined

The iconic Alila Spa debuts here with four treatment rooms and a hammam, blending Asian healing traditions with organic ingredients. Stay energized at the 24-hour Technogym-equipped fitness center or flow through sunrise yoga sessions in a glass-walled studio suspended above the sea.

For Families & Explorers

Alila Kids Club: A 103-sqm wonderland sparking young imaginations through nature-inspired play.

Island Adventures: Post-opening, expect immersive cultural programs celebrating Dong’ao’s fishing heritage and pristine landscapes.

The Island Escape You’ve Never Heard Of

Dubbed “China’s Secret Saipan,” car-free Dong’ao Island outshines mainstream destinations with its crystalline waters and UNESCO Global Geopark-worthy geology. Part of Zhuhai’s Wanshan Archipelago (a 40-70min ferry ride from Shenzhen or Zhuhai), it offers helicopter transfers for those craving drama—arrive via 15-minute scenic flight from Jiuzhou Airport.

Why Now?

While Sanya and Wanning crowd itineraries, Alila’s first Chinese island resort unveils a new paradigm: where architecture melts into cliffs, wellness becomes ritual, and every moment synchronizes with the sea’s rhythm. This isn’t just a hotel—it’s a love letter to the primal beauty of southern China.
